Sensory
We receive and perceive sensory input from the world around us through our senses. Tactile: touch, Auditory: sounds, Visual: sight, Gustatory: taste, Olfactory: smell, Proprioception: body position, Vestibular: movement.
Children diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder find it difficult to process and organise sensory information. A 'Sensory Diet' is a carefully designed, personalised activity plan that provides the sensory input a child needs to stay focused and organised throughout the day. Each child has a unique set of sensory needs.
Generally, a child whose nervous system is on “high trigger/too fast” needs more calming input, while the child who is more “sluggish/too floppy” needs more arousing input. A qualified Occupational Therapist can can develop a good sensory diet for your child. The resources in this catagory are designed to support and enhance your sensory diets.
