HCWA Funding for Resources

Helping Children with Autism Package

The "Helping Children with Autism Package" is a Federal Government initiative which allows families with a child under 6 to access up to $12,000.00 in early intervention services over 2 years ($6000.00 per financial year).

Fortunately up to 35% of the funding can be used on appropriate resources to a maximum of $4200.00 in total ($2100.00 per financial year). This means that Mudpie resources could be covered by your funding.

Important: in order to qualify for HCWA funding, resources must be assessed as integral to the child's therapy, and support the child's Individual Service Plan. It must be agreed upon by both the panel provider and the family prior to purchase. See 'Terms & Conditions' below for more information on this.

Also, if you live in an outer regional or remote area or if your family has two or more children with a diagnosed disability you may be eligible for a $2,000 Outer Regional, Remote and Access Support Payment. Some families experiencing severe financial hardship may also be eligible under the new expanded eligibility criteria. This additional access support funding is available through FaHCSIA.

A child will no longer be eligible for the early intervention funding or for the remaining portion of the unspent funding package once they turn seven years of age - so make sure you use it.

How to use your funding to purchase Mudpie Autism Resources

This process does require some paperwork and the assistance of your Autism Advisor and panel provider. Your Advisor will provide you with information and advice on all aspects of the package and in particular information about panel providers. You will receive a letter of introduction from the Autism Advisor to be presented to the panel provider/s. To contact your Autism Advisor please visit: Autism Advisors. To see a list of approved panel providers across Australia please go to this link: FaHCSIA approved service providers.

  1. Download and print out your Mudpie order form from this link: ORDER FORM and fill out the resources you require with all of your details.
  2. Send the Mudpie order form to the approved panel provider along with a copy of your letter of Introduction from your Autism Advisor. The panel provider can then enter you into the FaHCSIA Online Funds Management System (FOFMS).
  3. Your panel provider will then get you to fill in the following forms either via fax or in person.
    • Form 1 Privacy Declaration needs to be signed in two places.
    • Form 2 Consent to Claim Payment Form needs to be completed with your child's name and your signature.
    • Form 3 Service Delivery Record needs to be signed against the amount.
  4. The panel provider then emails Mudpie on your behalf with your order.
  5. Mudpie will invoice the panel provider for the order.
  6. When the claim has been processed in the system and approved, your panel provider must pay the Mudpie invoice.
  7. On receipt of payment Mudpie will send out your order after all of the above steps have been completed. Orders will be sent to the panel provider.

Part (g): Funding for resources

  • Up to 35 per cent of a child's early intervention funding may be used to purchase resources, to a maximum of $2,100 per financial year, or $4,200 in total. Claims for reimbursement that exceed this limit must not be submitted.

  • A Client Consent Form must be signed by both the Panel Provider and the family prior to the purchase of the resource.
  • An eligible resource can be purchased by the Panel Provider delivering intervention to the child, or by the child's family, provided that a Client Consent Form has been signed.
  • If the family purchases a resource, a receipt for the purchase must be provided to the Panel Provider. The Panel Provider will claim the cost of the resource through FOFMS and then must reimburse the family.

  • If the Panel Provider who is delivering intervention to a child or that child's family is unable to purchase the resources, another Panel Provider can purchase the resources on their behalf.

  • A Panel Provider can claim a reimbursement for the cost of a resource through FOFMS under the Case Claims Tab. A claim in FOFMS must include the intervention 'type' and a description of the resource.
